SLOVENIAN  VERSION

'The Eagles' match race team

Way ahead of plans, we have entered the top 30 in the world.
Thanks to all my crew and my family.
Jure Orel   02.02.2007

REASON & IDEA
After several very successful seasons of racing in open and monotype sailing classes in north Adriatic, an urge for fresh challenges emerged.
Question: How to try to compete with world's best sailors in keel-boat racing, without enormous costs (buying, transporting, maintaining and  upgrading an expensive sailboat)?
Answer: Match-race.
Racing other sailors using the same "weapon", where talent, experience and team-work are the decisive factors. Input: time, training, travel costs, modest entry fees.

CREW Skipper: Jure Orel    SLOJO1
Permanent crew: Aleš Božnik, Karlo Hmeljak
           Davor Glavina, Mitja Beltram,

Crew: Simon Dekleva,
           Mitja Nevečny, Robert Vrčon

ACHIEVEMENTS
During 2004 season, when just entering the world of match racing, we attended only three regattas. The objective to evaluate our own capabilities and potential range in this specific form of sailing was achieved.

But season 2005 was already more productive. We competed in eight international match races around Europe. At most of the events our results exceeded our expectations, so we completed the year (after competing for just a season and a half) situated at 95th place on the ISAF  match race ranking, with 1400 listed active crews.  Because the goals for 2005 were to attend as many races as possible and accumulate new experience, this was certainly achieved, especially since our silent wish to finish in the top hundred on ISAF MR ranking was granted (obtained by our effort).

Our thoughts were focused on the future, the rank of races was progressing, and we were determined to try and ascend (with a lot of training and invested effort) into the top fifty crews in the world by the end of 2006 season. Maybe all did not go as planed at some individual events, but it's a learning curve. Anyhow, the overall result (39th in December 2006) was exceptional, and a great foundation for or further involvement in match racing.

GOALS
We are in the top forty in the world at the moment and a new season is here. The rank of events that we compete in is still progressing, competition is getting stronger, and progressing up the ranking list is tougher with each higher place. Since we are remaining an unprofessional team, even defending our place in this elite company demands a lot of effort, skills and enthusiasm. But goals should be set high, therefore we will try to get up to the top thirty on ISAF ranking list. And when the season ends it will be time to consider the future.
